Not all drone shots are equal. Some shots are so powerful that they lift your wedding film to Hollywood level. After hundreds of weddings, we have listed the 7 most spectacular drone shots. Use them as inspiration for your own wedding day!
1 The Reveal Shot
This is the classic, and often the highlight of any wedding drone video. The camera starts close up, on the couple, on the flowers or on a detail of the venue, and then slowly flies up and back. Step by step, the drone reveals the full grandeur of the wedding venue.
When: At the start of the ceremony or during the photo shoot after the ceremony.
Best locations: Castles, country estates, waterside venues or venues with sweeping gardens.
2 The Orbit Shot
In this shot the drone slowly circles the couple while the camera stays fixed on them. The result is a dramatic, cinematic shot in which the background keeps changing. This is the shot that always makes guests say "wow".
When: During the photo shoot, ideally in an open spot with a beautiful view.
Tip: Works best when the couple stands still or moves slowly. A kiss or an embrace makes this shot even more powerful.
3 The Top-Down Shot
The drone flies directly above the couple and looks straight down. This gives a graphic, artistic image that you rarely see in traditional videography. It looks especially good when the couple stands on a striking surface, such as a geometric garden, the contrast of green grass and a white path, or a beach.
When: During the photo shoot or a walk.
Bonus: The train of the wedding dress looks stunning from a top-down perspective!
4 The Follow Shot
The drone follows the couple at close range while they walk, drive or sail. This creates a dynamic, filmic feel, as if you are watching a scene from a romantic film. It is especially effective when the couple walks down a tree-lined avenue, crosses a bridge or drives a classic car.
When: On arrival, at departure, or during a walk between locations.
Tip: Don't walk too fast! A calm, elegant pace gives the most beautiful footage.
5 The Golden Hour Shot
Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is when the magic really happens. The warm, golden light makes every drone shot spectacular. The long shadows, warm tones and soft light create a dreamy, romantic image.
When: 45-60 minutes before sunset. Plan this moment into your schedule for the day!
Tip: Combine golden hour with a reveal or orbit shot for maximum effect.
6 The Ceremony Overview
A smooth shot that shows the entire ceremony set-up from the air. All the guests, the decorations, the flowers, the setting: everything in one grand image. This shot captures the atmosphere and scale of your ceremony perfectly and still impresses years later.
When: Just before or after the ceremony (not during, to avoid noise disturbance).
Best for: Outdoor ceremonies with lots of guests and a beautiful natural setting.
7 The Departure Shot
The couple leaves, by car, by boat or simply on foot, and the drone slowly rises as they grow smaller in the frame. The venue, the landscape and finally the wider surroundings come into view. The perfect ending for your wedding film.
When: At the end of the day, or when you leave the ceremony for the reception.
Emotion: This shot symbolises the start of your journey together. Always an emotional moment when you watch the film back.
