Not every wedding venue is equal when it comes to drone footage. Some venues are simply made for spectacular aerial shots. After years of experience with drone videography at weddings all over the Netherlands, we share our favourite types of venue that deliver breathtaking results time after time.

1 Castles and Country Houses

The Netherlands has dozens of beautiful castles and country houses that host weddings. From the air, the towers, the symmetrical gardens and the impressive architecture really come into their own. The contrast between the historic building and the surrounding greenery always makes for spectacular footage.

Drone tip: A reveal shot that starts on the two of you and slowly rises to reveal the entire castle is unbeatable here.

2 Waterside Venues

Wedding venues by a lake, a river or the coast offer a natural contrast that looks phenomenal from the air. The sky reflected in the water, the line between land and water, and the endless horizon add depth and drama to every shot.

Drone tip: A low flyover across the water towards the venue gives a cinematic effect that reminds guests of a Hollywood production.

3 Estates with Tree-Lined Avenues

A tree-lined drive is the perfect backdrop for a follow shot: the drone follows the wedding car or the couple as they drive or walk down the avenue. The symmetry of the row of trees seen from above is one of the most iconic drone shots.

Drone tip: Film the two of you walking hand in hand down the avenue, seen from above. The shadows of the trees create a graphic pattern.

4 Beach Venues

The Dutch coast offers unique opportunities for drone photography. The contrast of golden sand, blue sea and a white wedding dress gives you photos that could go straight into a magazine. Beach clubs and beach pavilions (restaurants built right on the sand) are popular wedding venues that look stunning from the air.

Drone tip: A top-down shot of the two of you on the beach, with the waves rolling in, is always a winner.

5 Farms and Barns

The rustic charm of a farm wedding goes beautifully with drone footage. The wide open fields, the characteristic buildings and the rural setting create a warm, romantic picture from the air.

6 Vineyards

Yes, the Netherlands has vineyards where you can get married too! From the air, the rows of vines form beautiful geometric patterns. The aerial footage is enchanting, especially in autumn when the leaves change colour.

7 Parks and Gardens

Formal gardens with geometric patterns, fountains and sculptures are a drone videographer's dream. The symmetry from above is breathtaking. Think of the Keukenhof-style gardens (after the famous Dutch flower park) that many country estates have.

8 Forest Venues

A wedding in the woods offers a magical setting. The drone captures the dense canopy, the rays of light filtering through the trees, and the two of you as a small point of light in a sea of green. Forest venues are irresistibly beautiful, especially in autumn.

9 Industrial Venues

Old factories, warehouses and industrial complexes are becoming more and more popular as wedding venues. The raw textures, the large spaces and the contrast with elegant wedding styling make for surprisingly beautiful drone footage.

10 Islands

Getting married on one of the Wadden Islands off the north coast, or in the Biesbosch wetlands? Island venues are spectacular from the air by definition. The whole setting, with water, nature and the island itself, is the perfect canvas for drone videography.

Checklist: Is Your Venue Suitable for Drone Footage?

  • Is the venue outside a no-fly zone? (We check this for you)
  • Is there enough open space around the building?
  • Is the venue happy for drone footage to be filmed? (Always ask in advance)
  • Is there an outdoor space for the ceremony or photo shoot?
  • Are there striking features that look great from the air?
